AEON STORES ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF MANAGING DIRECTOR

(HONG KONG, 21 May 2006) - General Merchandise Stores ("GMS") operator AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited ("AEON Stores" or "the Company") (Stock code: 984) and its subsidiaries (the "Group") today announced that with effect from 19 May 2006, Mr. Lam Man Tin has been appointed as the Managing Director of AEON Stores, and Mr. Naoyuki Miyashita has been re-designated from Executive Director to Non-executive Director and will take up a new assignment within AEON Co., Ltd.

Mr. Lam has been an Executive Director of AEON Stores since May 1999 and is also the Director of South China Business Development of the Company. He has over 20 years of retail and services experience and joined the Group in 1992. Mr. Lam graduated from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom with a Master's Degree in Strategic Marketing.

It has always been the Group's intention to recruit local talents who can run local operations most effectively. The appointment of Mr. Lam is a concrete step of the Group's effort to localise its proven Japanese retail experience.

Mr. Toshiji Tokiwa, Chairman of AEON Stores, said, "The Board would like to welcome Mr. Lam to his new position.
