AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited
On 11th Jan, the first AEON Day in 2016, AEON volunteer team participated in a volunteer activity organised by World Wildlife Fund Hong Kong (WWFHK) at Mai Po Nature Reserve. The volunteer removed Mikania, an invasive liana, to conserve the environment and maintain the balance of the ecosystem in Mai Po. They also learnt about wetland and migratory birds.
Mikania is a fast growing vine that climbs up other plants to reach the canopy for better sunlight. Its leaves cover up the host plants eventually, cutting out the sunlight for photosynthesis and killing them in the worst case. Therefore, removing Mikania is important for creating a suitable environment for the plants and keeping the biodiversity in the Reserve.
