(HONG KONG, November 25, 2001) – General Merchandise Stores (GMSs) operator JUSCO Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited (Stock code: 984) today held its lucky draw finale at the Tuen Mun JUSCO Store, signifying the climax of its “Towards 15th Anniversary” promotional campaign. Officiating at the ceremony, Mr. Sozaburo Yamazaki, Managing Director of JUSCO, presented the grand prizes to the lucky winners.
To express sincere thanks to its customers, JUSCO launched this unprecedented lucky draw programme between October 25 and November 21, 2001 to give away 15 deluxe apartments and 15 luxury cars at a total value of over HK$6 million.
Looking back, Mr. Yamazaki said, “Our first flagship store, the Kornhill Store, was opened in 1987. During the past 14 years, we have been committed to providing excellent services and comprehensive merchandise mix in order to provide the ultimate shopping experience to our valued customers. With their continuous support, we are now operating eight GMSs in Hong Kong and two GMSs in Guangzhou, the PRC.”
Entering its 15th anniversary, JUSCO will, on the one hand, strive to provide total customer satisfaction which is a crucial factor contributing to its success. On the other, it will actively look for expansion opportunities to further consolidate its leadership position in the retail industry.
Commenting on JUSCO’s future development strategies, Mr. Yamazaki said, “Achieving high levels of customer satisfaction will always be our prime focus. Recently, we have launched a series of promotional campaigns including the USA, Korean and Japanese food fairs which were all well received. In the future, we will continue to launch effective promotion campaigns to attract and retain a loyal customer base.”

“Externally, we are actively exploring opportunities for expansion. We expect to open at least 20 GMSs in the Southern PRC in the next five years. In 2002, our new GMS in Shenzhen is scheduled to open in the third quarter. Besides, we are also planning to open two additional GMSs in Guangdong province. Looking to the Hong Kong market, we expect to open two to three GMSs in highly populated areas in the next three years,.”
Mr. Yamazaki concluded, “Leveraging our past experience and success, we believe that it is high time to plan for our development so as to enhance our earnings in the future.”
