AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited
On 11th August 2017, AEON Day volunteer team visited Food Grace Centre in Shek Lei, Kwai Chung District. They made use of the surplus vegetables collected from nearby wet market and some other ingredients donated by AEON to cook an "eco" meal for a group of elderly.
As the elderly rarely eat western foods, the volunteers surprised them by cooking spaghetti, baked eggplants with cheese and minestrone. While the meal was being prepared, another group of volunteers played games and did some exercises with the elderly. After that, everyone gathered together to enjoy the meal and chit-chat happily.
This activity has conveyed the messages of environmental protection by reducing food waste as well as caring for the elderly. At the same time, the volunteers has learnt more about the problem of surplus food and how to recycle food waste for low-carbon diet.
