AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited
The Used Book Recycling Campaign has been co-organized by World Vision Hong Kong and AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited since 1992. The event has risen over HK$34 million in the past 26 years for World Vision's poverty-alleviation projects in China.
Approaching its 27th year, the donations to the campaign will support Jiaxin Centre and Xieshou Centre in Kunming County, Yunnan province, in provision of left skills training, promoting the habit of reading, improving learning environment and offering training for teachers.
The opening ceremony kicks off today (26th July 2018) at Plaza Hollywood in Diamond Hill. At the opening ceremony, Scarlett Wong and Josephine Ng, along with representatives of the organizers, placed puzzle pieces that contain the phrased "learn self-care", "receive love", "enjoy reading", "develop interests" and "learn to protect oneself" into a giant book, which symbolizes that children in need enjoy quality education, receive adequate protection and are given development opportunities at World Vision-supported Jiaxin Centre and Xieshou Centre.
This year over 150,000 of used books, including novels, travel guides, leisure reading, children's books and comics are collected and used for charity sale. Also available at the venue are the crafts market and storytelling sessions by Choi EE, offering participants viable options besides books.
