AEON Dream Social Camp 2018

AEON Dream Social Camp, an original programme devised by AEON China, is an experiential learning programme that aims to provide opportunities for children and youngsters to learn the happiness, hardship and also the meanings of work through real experiences, so as to help them in accelerating inter-personal communication skills and cultivating positive values in lives.

The pilot programme was first held last year, partnered with St. James' Settlement who arranged nearby schools and youth centres to join. The feedback was positive. In order to allow more children to participate in the programme, open-recruitment has been adopted this year, by in-store and online application. Each participating store has organised two activities with the themes of "Supermarket Replenisher", "Houseware Salesperson", "Promotion Designer" and "Cashier", covering the basic job duties of different positions in department stores. During the period from May to December, a total of 187 primary and secondary students have participated in the programme.

In each activity, participants first gathered in training room to attend an orientation course introducing basic customer serving skills and store management skills. Before starting to work, they put on AEON uniforms and staff badges, followed by a briefing about the daily job procedures and skills of the positions. The core part was to experience the real works in small groups. After the work, participants gathered again in the training room where tutors gave comments and led them to summarize learning outcomes. At the end, they received certificates of appreciation as encouragement. It is hoped that the skills and values cultivated could have positive impacts to their future.
