AEON Hong Kong and Komeda Co., Ltd. enters into a Regional Franchise Agreement

AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited (“AEON Hong Kong” or the “Group”) and KOMEDA Co., Ltd. entered into a regional franchise agreement ("Agreement"), with the aim of operating business of “KOMEDA’s Coffee” in Hong Kong.

KOMEDA’s Coffee is a full-service coffee shop chain that originated in Nagoya, the birthplace of Japanese coffee shop culture. Since its establishment in 1968, it aims to provide customers with " the most relaxing place", letting them enjoy coffee with the same peace of mind as in their own living room; committed to becoming the "best store in the area". In terms of overseas markets, KOMEDA’s Coffee has opened a total of 33 stores in Taiwan and Shanghai (as of the end of April 2022). The store has gained great support from customers in various regions, especially in Taiwan, with its store network covering Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. By entering into this agreement, KOMEDA’s Coffee will expand into Hong Kong for the first time with hopes to achieve steady growth.

In addition to the operation of GMS and independent supermarkets, AEON Hong Kong has been actively opening specialty stores in recent years, including Daiso Japan and Japanese bakery Pain Des Cante, to introduce more diversified products and services. The Group has been rooted in Hong Kong for 35 years and has been reviewing and strengthening its store opening, construction and operation system, as well as having successfully lain a solid foundation in the market. It will help the development of the KOMEDA’s Coffee brand in Hong Kong, strengthen facilitation of the brand's characteristics and promote the expansion of specialty stores, at the same time, bringing customers a brand-new Japanese dining experience.

Mr Isao Sugawara, Managing Director of AEON Stores, said, "Experiencing the new normal under the epidemic, the public's demand for consumer goods and high-quality catering services has increased. In the past year, due to market downturn and decreasing shop rental prices, AEON Hong Kong has successfully seized development opportunities and continued to expand the business of specialty stores. This new strategic cooperation is the first time that AEON Hong Kong has joined hands with a well-known Japanese coffee chain, which may accelerate AEON Hong Kong in the format of restaurant chain stores. With the Japanese special menu, excellent management system and clear market positioning of KOMEDA’s Coffee, coupled with AEON's rich experience in the Hong Kong retail market, consistently professional and customer-oriented service attitude, we believe that it will bring a pleasant and satisfying dining experience to customers.
