AEON Cheers Club Coastal Clean-up Activities

On April 15th and 16th, AEON Cheers Club and Jane Goodall Association (Hong Kong) held two beach cleaning activities. A group of 21 AEON staff led a total of 59 AEON Cheers Club members from different stores to form two volunteer teams and to carry out coastal cleanup activities in Sheung Sze Wan, Sai Kung and Lung Kwu Tan, Tuen Mun.

On the day of the activities, AEON staff and children worked hard together to clean up the garbage on the beaches. In just an hour, a total of 17 bags of garbage were collected. There were all kinds of garbage scattered on the beach, including plastic bottles, polyfoam, plastic fragments, glass debris, discarded nylon ropes and fishing nets and cigarette butts, etc.

In recent years, waste and rubbish have been washed ashore on the beach. Much of the garbage is plastic products, which does not only threaten the survival of marine life, but also has the opportunity to enter the food chain, causing people to ingest toxic substances from their daily diet and affecting their health. Through the coastal clean-up activities, it is hoped that the participants will understand the importance of marine environment conservation and plastic reduction, hence establishing a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

About AEON Cheers Club:
Since 2014, AEON has established the "AEON Cheers Club" which recruits primary one to secondary three students living near the store to become members and organizes interesting educational activities for them to learn about nature and the environment. It aims to foster the interest of the young generation in nature and to understand the importance of environmental conservation. In addition, it is hoped that children will learn social etiquette, team spirit and cooperation during the activities, and develop curiosity and independent thinking ability.
