AEON STORES REPORTS BOOSTED SALES DURING CHRISTMAS AND YEAR-END CONTINUES SPECIAL PROMOTION IN NEW YEAR TO LIFT CONSUMPTION DESIRE AND SALES

(HONG KONG, 1 January 2009) - AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited ("AEON Stores" or the "Group") (Stock code: 984) reported success with the Christmas and year-end sale and will continue to roll out attractive offers to celebrate the advent of the New Year with customers. By offering a greater variety of products at major discounts, the Group hopes to boost consumption sentiment as well as sales volume during the festive seasons.

During the special Christmas and year-end promotion between 24 and 30 December 2008, both the average transaction amount and total sales of all stores of the Group in Hong Kong recorded single digit growth against the same period in 2007.

The Group expects the special sale for the New Year between 1 and 5 January 2009 to attract high customer traffic boosting average transaction amount and total sales of all stores in Hong Kong to the same levels as the Christmas and year-end promotion.

Mr. Lam Man Tin, Managing Director of AEON Stores, said, "We are very pleased with the sales performance of our stores during the Christmas period despite the economic slowdown. Thus, we are having another round of special sale for the New Year. We hope the special promotion can help to stimulate consumption atmosphere in Hong Kong and lift the spirit of Hong Kong people in this tough economic climate. This agrees with our business principle of 'everything we do, we do for our customers'. The Group is delighted to share the happiness during the festive seasons with the customers."

"Looking to 2009, the financial crisis is not expected to go away soon and will continue to affect economies around the world including the local economy, meaning consumption sentiment is going to remain weak for a while. However, with the government having launched a series of measures to buttress the economy and the management applying its rich experience in ensuring business thrives even during bad times, we are confident that the Group will be able to make it through the slack period and gather growth momentum when the economy picks up again."

During the 5-day New Year sales promotion, selected merchandises, such as frozen scallops, bird's nest drinks and instant noodles will be sold at HK$1 each and some products at discounts up to as much as 80%.
